| Best bang for the buck is Kel Audio. You may not like the sound, but at $100, the HM-4 is a bargain. You might try AT 3031 and Pro37 as well as a used SM81. The e614 might be nice too (couldn't say myself). If you are flexable in how you mount them, you can often get SDC mic from a podium or choir overhead aplication for a good price. Often, these are quite nice. -tINY |

IMHO, a used AT-4051 or AT-4053. About $250 or so each on e-bay. After that, maybe a pair of Josephson C42s -- a bit more expensive and a bit brighter.

My vote for AT-4051. Works very good on acoustic guitar and HH.

If we knew roughly how many bucks you wanted to spend, then identifying the best "bang for the buck" for your particular situation would probably be a lot easier. I do agree that the KEL is an excellent choice for very little money. The Gefell is nice on acoustic, but it's 8x as much. Similar "bang for the buck" factor on both though. Neumann KM184 or Josephson are good choices as well, kind of in the middle of the two price ranges above... |

I will also suggest the at4050, which is pretty damn universal, but especially nice sounding on acoustic guitars and guitar cabs.

I would also check out the Josephson C42.
