multing adat litepipe/routing question

Hi folks,
I am trying to introduce a 16 channel ad converter into my system. my intention is to bypass my da7 mixers converters. i am a little unsure about howto still monitor through my mixer and use the converter. i have an adat patchbay so this is what i am thinking will work.

input---preamp---ad converter---adat patchbay(2 mult outs)--1)fw audio interface
2) da7's to monitor

it seems like this will work. i am wondering if anyone know if i will lose any signal by multin adat.

i also will only be able to 2 way synch one of the 2 multed devices. not sure what this would mean sonically.

thanks in advance for your help.

Less

Hi Q,
Some heads ups. The converters in the DA7, were rated very highly. Hopefully your new unit is even better but I would not assume so.
I do lots of lightpipe. 24way looms. I decided not to go patchbay because I read somewhere that Clocking via lightpipe was not great. Does your FW interface have ADAT out? Can you go FW to DA7 for monitoring, leaving out the patchbay. Run a WordClock from your converter to the FW and or DA7.
Good luck, DD

dandan,
i actually have a big ben clocking everything. am thinking about an aurora a/d converter. i am buying a lot of fancy pres and eq's and want to make sure my converters are not degrading things. am i misled to think this will make a difference? anyone. either way i am hoping someone can answer the adat multing question.

thanks!

Mult

Hi Q,
Don't know the Aurora. Check the reviews perhaps. A friend, a highly respected engineer in Philly uses DA7 converters as his go to. I sidestepped the mult question because it seems to me there is no need to do that, and it might be better not to.
If your FW has ADAT outs then it is probably best to monitor "through" your DAW. This makes normal Drop ins possible. Your secondary monitoring arrangement would be difficult to operate I believe.
Good luck with your upgrades,
DD

d,
i think i am going to stick with the da7 converters for the moment. i might as well see how things sound with the new toys and maybe rent an apogee or aurora and see if it makes a difference.
thanks,
q
