| Lives for gear | Advice on signal chain?
While of course it's best to have two of everything, my checkbook isn't going to support that at the moment. I am trying to give myself a solid signal chain for recording a variety of instruments and voices. Here is what I have (figured out) so far: AT4060/QTC30's-> SCA N72/C84s -> Ensemble Basically i guess I'm thinking of outboard compressors and EQ's that would prove to be useful, and not degrade the signal chain much (no Berhinger gear). I've got to say that I mainly will be recording acoustic guitar and vocals. I'm thinking that reasonably I can afford a stereo set of RNCs and RNLs. Are there any other decent, but reasonably priced compressors that I should really be looking at? I'm thinking a distressor or a 1176 at some point, but I can't afford two of them for stereo, unless that is maybe I built two of the Purple Audio MC77's. I am also hoping to get a decent EQ. I have very little experience with what's out there for outboard EQ. Anything around $500/channel that's decent? For outboard processing I currently have an MPX1, a PSA-1, an MF-101 and a 910. |
