hey guys, just came across this vid on youtube

anybody knows/used this technique?

Description says:

Two cardiod condenser microphones pointed on a 90 degree angle on the edge of the drum kit with about 3 feet away from the drum surfacees + a large diaphragm condenser under the seat, equal distance from the Center point of the drum kit.

So the third mic sounds like some sort of a crotch mic? but 3 feet away..
The 90 degree angle on the edge of the drum is kinda hazy for me, trynna figure it out

Sounds pretty cool tho', nice kick

it's because there's no pres or mics shootout involved? :D

What if I say if someone talks with me about this I'll try it
with a pair of vintage CV12 + U47? into Neve preamps? maybe?

I like it......... I'm guessing one of the outside "O-H" mics has the phase flipped? . I think the room will factor heavily into how well this technique will work

Interesting. It does bring in the room a lot more, for better or worse. I might give this a go on my next drum session. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is getting any use out of this technique.

Can't see the under the seat mic, but I see a front OH instead..

EDIT: it makes more sense looking at the other vids, the front OH is actually
used to compare this technique to mono, so i assume even if it's in the video
is not used.

Hey guys,

I am Aiden King who has developed this technique....

Basically my findings were not based of anyone else's finding rather me starting with a blank slate. I though it worked very well but had a lot of trouble with phase especially once more close microphones were introduced....

thanks for taking an interest in the videos, and be sure to check out my others....

Get in contact with me if you have any questions on how i achieved and how you can give it a go!
