Snare sound sample, "ala" randy staub

Hi Guys,

Im wondering if anyone knows or have a similiar snare sample that Randy staub often uses for his latest mixes, like "Nickelback", Simple Plan, Bo Bice, etc..

Its a very fat sounding snare, with a LOT, i mean, A LOT of overtone and ring.. but blending it with the natural snare makes it sound so big and FAT. tipicall of his works.

Id appreciate any help guys.
Ive attached a sound sample of what im talking about

PS: I wouldnt be surprised if he got it from an Alesis drummachine or something!

thanks

This is a eames snare drum from the 80's it's real deep
I recorded the top with a 57 bottom with a 414 buls
and a tlm 103 from 5 feet away
These are hand made snare drums.

ofcoarse youll need to tune this depending on the song
I use melodyne

I purposely threw an electronic one with some bottom so you could blend it with your drumkit. AC's by itself is closer to the record.

AC - nice snare sample.

Im assuming thats a clip of the Bo Bice snare. That song doesnt sound like it has the typical Randy Staub snare sound. Like Nickelback, Crossfade stuff has a ton of the Piiiiiiiiiiiiinggg sound which i love, this Bo Bice one sounds pretty typical average. I could be wrong though im listening on laptop speakers.

thanks gregg. i think the electronic snare is very close to the song. Blending it with an actual natural snare would give it that sound

I was trying to put these on the last post -- here are some at 88.2 -- sampled at Vocal Asylum (Lugo). They're dry from a Motif -- I forget what the analog chain was. The "crack" at the front of these is very good for layering. I considered gating the ring and resampling, but I left them as sampled -- not normalized, either, so feel free to turn them up.

Nice sound, but do we get any syrup with that pancake? (SNARE 4 GS)

Sorry, had to do it. No, seriously, though -- it's got that hardcore square-wave limiting thing happening if you zoom in...

P.S.: djui rules.

Where does everyone get their samples? From a collection, or a session?

Yeah, I smashed it a bit. It's actually 4 or 5 different snares...

That brass one does sound good.

It's not a black beauty... it's actually a brass Steve Ferrone snare drum.

I created that sample myself. I thought it came out pretty good, so I was inclined to share. It's going to be included in my next drum sample CD. (shameless plug!)

I've heard his samples.........all I can say is that they are "built" to perfection. His samples are natural but at the same time not. The best way to go about getting something similar to his is to build a sample using multiple hits. His Kiks and Snares have a solid foundation from the bottom all the way to the top. Meaning - his whole freq. response is solid, tight and punchy. No freq. is left for chance.
