New show with Live bands recorded in studio on PBS

There's a new live in studio show that highlights bands with some interviews thrown in for good measure. The show is called "Live at the Alley"

It features two bands each week filmed live in the studio. I missed the first episode, but found it on the web at:

Live At The Alley

Check it out!

Thanks to Tousana for turning us on to this great program. I got up this morning and thought "hey, there should be a new episode of "Live at the Alley" to watch". I love the looks of the studio. Maybe for my next album I'll have to check it out. In the meantime,I'll spread the word around the Bend. Great job Marc.

Live At The Alley

Just watched the S. Joel Norman episode. Loved it! Has that nice Chitown bluesy feel. They seemed like fun guys to work with, did you get a little jealous when Joel was kissing your dog? I thought dogs were supposed to be loyal. Also I was wondering what was on the OH's? Also on the second song whats the name of that dance you were doing in the background that might catch on. Great job on a great program, its good to see some of the local talent.I was listening to the show on my Focal XS 2.1 on the computer sounded really good keep it up.

Hi Mark, i enjoy the show.

Curious how you use your api's, are they on the drums?
Your drums sound consistently really good.

hi HallJam...

well, i sold my APIs a while ago... I really didn't think they were all that special.. it's just my taste. We have a 512 floating around here and i never use it unless i need another channel...

Im a drummer's engineer i guess... i dont play drums, but.. i love to record them.. must have been when i was under Dennis Tousana years ago at CRC or when i was a Protégé for Bill Schnee in Los Angeles.. I LOVE drums and bass.. Those two gentlemen are KINGS when it comes to drum tones.
Both Bill and Dennis taught me what to do to get the drums of my choice. NO matter the gear, I knew how to get really really close at least...

My setup changes up every session... but i do stick to a few rules...

-Glynn Johns on OH for really special (lots of MOvement) drums = exciting drum mix.. ( mostly use my modded solidtubes for stereo)

-mono overheads for more in your face folk like drums... (flea12 everytime)

-Always a d12 or 47 on kick

- NO compression on the kick

- GregNorman (electrical audio) pres on everything.

- fatso on OH always.

-CLA Bluestripe 1176 on snare - I like it better than my outboard comps

I did try a Chandler Germanium on a Mono OH a few days ago and thought it was just peachy...

The two band + interview is a good format, a la Austin City Limits, Live at Abbey Road, Sessions at W. 54th., etc.

Any production connection to Live at Abbey Road?

Hi Marc,
would you please explain the mixing vocal chain on the 2 episode (James Weston) including effects.
Is the Flea U47 you used on your voice on song "Keep" you posted a few month ago?
Thanks a lot.
Best from France.

First off, I will state that I never gotten into commenting on annoying replies to threads. I feel just feel compelled too on the B.S. reply on this one.

Frank, have you seen the show? I guess you must have since you think it's a waste of money. What could possibly be considered a waste of money to you may be just the thing to spark interest in PBS and the arts, bring more viewers to the various channels, and bring attention to what many of us make a living doing. I speak from 30 years of being in the business, so I didn't just start recording yesterday.

I know first hand that this is probably one of the better deals for the government has gotten lately, as they haven't put out one dime of funding for the show.

Although the host of the show is a friend, and I guess some will confuse this as being a conflict, he (Marc) has done a full 13 episodes recording, filming and editing 26 bands for the broadcast.

The station has picked up the show for nothing, and for all the countless hours that have gone into bring the show to air not a penny has be made, for the studio, the film crew, or the countless numbers of people involved in making the show happen.

I for one would like to give the people involved a thumbs up for their effort. I will not comment any further on this topic. If this makes it up without being censored out, thanks for reading.

Thank you Dennis for being a supporter of mine for over 10 years... For what its worth Dennis has no connection to this show except for advising and opinion making... He's absolutely right, I haven't made a dime on the show. I do it for love of my craft.

As for the remark made by Frank_Case... you have grounds to your own opinion. Honestly im not even going to waste anymore words regarding how far off you really are.. i see you joined 3 days ago... NIce

"Stephane" -The 47 on "keep" was my Telefunken 47... not the same as flea47 on ep2

"travisbrown"- No connection to Abbey road.. just a friend and i doing the show with a few helpers..
