I was thumbing through a backissue of TapeOp (page 33 Issue Sept 2001- the one with Andy Wallace) and came across the ad for the MC Huge Military AMM-68 Tube mic with the nifty field millitarysque power supply for $575. Has anyone tried this out? Anyone compare it to the Akg C60 that it's supposed to sound similar to? Worth the price tag?

Yeah, I caught that. Something that stuck me odd was that he dubbed it "kinda like a 57 on steroids", but it's an omni mic. I suppose that possible.

I own a matched pair of these bad boys. In a nut - they are Omni pattern small diaphram tube condensers that were based on the AKG C460 design. They come in an old hand painted World War 2 metal ammo box. The power supply, Cable, Mic mount and clip all fit perfectly into the ammo box in a very cool package. XLR out connections are on the back of the box, and they are a breeze to set up/break down. Sound Wise - They are very Warm sounding. Lots of rich harmonic complexity. Not very rolled off in the high freq's like some SDTC I have heard. Basically They are my favorite Drum Overhead Mic's. I have never had the opportunity the use a AKG C460 so I cant directly compare They seem to only have been available a very short time. I ordered them directly from Mike Mc Hugh, and I remember waiting approximately 2 months before they arrived.
