My first post had some crazy untamed lows (lesson learned: don't post until after listening in the car!). Here's a better version...

| How come there are no "less cowbell" jokes http://soundcloud.com/evanthomas916/family-band-again-mp3 Lovely song and a pleasure to mix. The mood is a little like the interior of a confessional, not the inside of a cathedral where everything echos and is heard. Last edited by TheTallman916; 12th December 2011 at 03:47 AM.. Cheers to everyone involved in this Probably the one of the best ways to learn to mix when you haven't time, gear or experience to do your own recordings. Get in touch and leave some feedback or I maybe be inclined to think I've just done the best mix in the world. |

Great fun. My first Weathervane mix. Thanks for some great recordings Brian and team. Things I went for in the mix: Helping the arrangement along with alot of automation Not alot of ambience initially, but builds as the song gets 'deeper' into itself Bringing instruments back and forth to keep interest and movement Copied in some extra lapsteel to bridge a gap of lapsteel loveliness. Comments welcome and appreciated! Alex

No one? Figured my totally left-field approach would turn some heads. I thought the song had the potential to be a completely different animal. The raw drums were asking to be big, and I wanted the bass to be almost synth-like.

| Very nice! I like how you added a metal element, knowing that the guitarist has metal roots...

| Yeah. The introduction video (I think that's what it is) and the band biography both stated that. When I mix these, I like to know a little about the band so that I know what they would like. I do my 'remixes' later. I do the same with some of my own clients as well. Sometimes, but not all the time, they like the 'remix' better. More often than not, though, they get a bit irate that I tried to remix their work. It's not easy trying to be an engineer AND a producer... |

Better late than never. I tried to keep it as subtle a mix as possible, with just a little tape delay and room reverb as far as effects go - hope anyone that listens likes it! This is my first Gearslutz post by the way ![]() Dave |
