Thread Starter | Event Studio Precision 8 vs. 6
I'm looking at the ASP8 and ASP6 monitors for mixing rough demos in a very small (think large hallway with tall ceiling) room. Decent bass and reasonable translation to home systems are the goals, and I'd like to avoid systems that require a subwoofer due to space considerations. I'll be implementing the usual acoustic treatments to make the best of the room. Two questions: 1) How does the ASP6 compare to the ASP8? The specs of the ASP6 suggest that it would be a reasonable choice, but you know how that goes. 2) Do you know of another set of monitors under $1,200 that fit these requirements? |

That sounds like a terrible mixing space. I don't know if any monitors will do you justice without mixing in a different spot. Nonetheless, I'd go for the 8" size--the bass difference will be very significant and worth it in the long run (because at some point you will probably be in a different spot). Event no longer makes a subwoofer. You could also consider Mackies. |

i agree with zonkola, go with the ASP8's. You'll get a much better bass response allowing for a easier mixing process.

To me, the 8's are just better sounding speakers, and sound fine at lower levels. (hallway size levels) Besides,- you never know when you might be moving into a larger space. good luck - dave darling |

I hate to go with the flow but, everything else being equal, I'd go for the 8's... Don't forget, you don't need to like or make bass-heavy music to need good bass reporting... if there's a low freq problem you need to know it's there before you can deal with it. Let's put it this way... I have a pair of the older 20/20bas which are near-flat to below 40 Hz... and I've NEVER ONCE wished they had less bass.

I have the ASP8's and love them. The bass response is amazing without being overpowering or boomy. When I bought them, I listened to both the 6's and the 8's, and although it was a while ago, I do remember that I knew immediately that I wanted the 8's over the 6's. I took the 8's home for a week on trial, and never returned them! I get great translation outside of the room, and I am really happy with my purchase. I have had them about a year now, and still feel like I am a newlywed!

Thanks for the input! Pretty overwhelming support for the ASP8's, so it looks like I'm on the right track (other than the tiny room issue.)

I have the 8s here. You want them. Trap the room and all will be fine.
