HELP, ROSETTA TO ADAT CHAIN IS GIVING RANDOM "CLICKS"

I am having a problem with this new chain I am trying:
MIC PRE > APOGEE ROSETTA>ADAT
I am getting random "clicks" about every 10 seconds, and when I select ADAT channels 2-4-6-8 using the adat lightpipe, the meters show that these clicks are NOT happening at the same time on those selected tracks...kind of at random.
I made sure that both the Apogee Rosetta and theADAT were both at 48 bit, and I have the same results weather I choose 16, 20, or 24 bit on the Apogee Rosetta.
Is this possibly a clocking issue?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi,

Please post exactly how everything is connected.

Is the ADAT set to slave to external sync? What kind? Is the Apogee set to internal and the ADAT to slave, or??? Is there a word clock connection between the two devices?

Best of luck!

I had the exact same problem when I first got into a chain similar to yours using an outboard converter. After some research and a few comments, I concluded that it definitely wasn't a clocking issue and may have been electrical in nature. I had the converter and digital recorder/mixer plugged into the same outlet. Seperating them on different lines ended the problem. Give it a try. This surprised me a bit as I would generally follow the rule of plugging the digital on one line and the analog on another. I was even using a PS Audio Ultimate Outlet for the two pieces at the time which should have prevented such problems, depending on what the source of the issue was of course.

Send a message via Yahoo to beechstudio
Make sure the Adat is set to 'digital' clock.

What Rick said.

Clicking is generally connected with clocking issues.

What DAW are you using?

here's my somewhat obscure contribution to the topic...
i used to get clicks and pops as well as other random stuff with my rosetta AD, what cured it was to always boot up the rosetta before booting anything else, even the computer.

crazy sh_t.

Well, it is a bit embaressing but I am still like 15 years behind the times.
I have 2 racks full of various outboard gear, a Soundcraft Ghost board, and 3 ADAT XT's.
The closest thing I have to a DAW is the Alesis Masterlink.
Getting into Protools or Motu is next on the list.
I don't seem to have any problems with clicks or pops going digital between the Rosetta>L2 >Masterlink in digital...

If none of the above suggestions work, consider replacing your ADAT cables--sometimes the clicks/pops are caused by a faulty optical cable.

I've had a similar problem. We should ask Max at Apogee what he thinks about it.

I'm running Big Ben, Rosetta 800, into 002.

Alright,
I had the the fricken clock select on the master adat set incorrectly as int.
I was only looking at matching the sample rates and having it set to digital, but I forgot to take it out of the int. mode
I'm glad that the problem is solved, but feelin like dumbass for overlooking that.
Thanks again to everyone for the help, this is a great site!!!!

Glad you got it working! Most of us have been there before, that's how we knew!

Now, go out into the world grasshopper and help ten other people with clocking problems and your debt shall be repaid!
