Using stomp boxes at mix down?

For anyone who uses guitar stomp boxes during mixes on guitar and basses, do run them into the insert or do you run them into the aux sends for better results?

You have to match your impedences with something like a PCP or REAMP to really get this rockin. I usually use aux sends as I like to blend the efx returns with the original signal. You could just send from the aux to the pedal and back, but you aren't going to get the correct type of resolution.

Ditto what e-cue said.

I like using my IBPs for this application because you can use the 'phase adjust' for additional sonic manipulation.

I use the console buss outs to feed the stomp box inputs. The outputs of the one-foot wonders go into the DI input of whatever preamp I feel like, a Vintech 1272, Telefunken V672 etc. and then get patched into the console line or tape-ins. The preamps give me gain and get the impedance back in the ball park. Plus, I get phase reverse and cool coloring from them. I run all kinds of stuff into stomp boxes. Guitars, bass, drums, vocals, keys, etc. I'm a guitar player, whuddayuh expect?

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

I always put my stompboxes in my patchbay between the DAW out and the input of my analogue console. Most of the time the output of the DAW is to hot, so I can pull the volume in Logic down to that point until the unit sounds fine. I think a DI after the stompbox is a good idea, but it works without one as well, you need to raise the gain at the input of you console, but hey, it's lofie anyway! By the way, you can't go wrong with Electro-Harmonix, this stuff rocks!
