Thread Starter | Can the Lawson L47 Mark I swap capsules or only the Mark II?
Does anyone know if the original Mark I L47 is hot swappable?

Yes you can swap capsules on the mkI and use the FET body with the 47 head to make an L47 FET. However, iirc, the MKII was redesigned to make the 251 head sound better. Something in the electronics for a the 251.

Thanks for the answer. I was about to buy a 47 mark I and a 251 FET. Guess I'll wait to see if I can find the package with a mark II. Is the difference a big one?

You can have Gene upgrade to the II version. He did mine a few years back and upgraded both the mic body and the power supply

Don't remember. It was about 5 yrs ago. I had just purchased the 47 off ebay, then decided to purchase the 251 brand new from Gene. He said he wanted to change out some of the electronics and had me bring in both the mic and power supply. Whatever he charged, it must have been very minimal since I was getting the 251 new. Best way to find out is call him Contact Lawson Microphones |
