You can get a free song download of one of Pearl Jam's new cuts from their upcoming album at their web site (Worldwide suicide. Thought some might be interested. Great song from a great band.

I'm a fan. As of now my opinion of this song is "meh," but we'll see. What is certain is that the recording quality seems to have taken a serious nosedive. Many of their previous albums are rock recording benchmarks to me. There are the glory days of Brendan O'Brien/Nick DiDia, then there is Binaural which was frickin Tchad Blake with Brendan O'Brien mixing. I'm afraid Brendan may not have had anything to do with this new record, and the first song doesn't sound so hot. Any comments?

Listen Pearl jam were one hit wonders. They are horrible!!! garage band.
I can't believe they are still together. There right up there with Vanilla ICE
Milli Vanilli and Tone Loc .

It's hard to believe that cheezy band was actually part of the great band 'Temple of the dog' and the greater band Mother love bone.

Pearl Jam = Cheeze Ball

MoFu ???? your suspect!

With Matt Cameron in the band now they are Temple Of The Dog sans Chris Cornell.

I like Pearl Jam a lot but I have to admit that there records get more and more low fi (almost to the point of trying too hard) and obscure every time. allencollins is entitled to his opinion and I respect it. I disagree totally, but i respect it.

Matt Cameron is awesome.
but I actually thought PJ sounded the best with the old drummer from the red hots

I think the temple cd is one of the best cd's ever recorded in any syle of music. It's magical. I just don't think PJ had that magic. Vedder sings in key. But He's a bit goofy looking and he strys to hard to be cool. He's a premadonna. He'll always be in the shadow of the great Chris Cornell. Cuz cornell is the greatest

gotta say...love me some pearl jam..

i really feel they are the real deal...like em or not..

pretty cool that they are still around and making music for THEIR FANS...

there are plenty of other "rock" bands out there if you just hate PJ..

i am excited to hear the new record...that rarely happens for me anymore..

peace..

I loved the 90's indie thing.....I dug the the back to the roots grunge 70's rock. That said...I think of pearl jam kinda like...the doors....strong front guys looks...decent vocals...caught a vibe...had some hits.....that said...they couldn't right anymore hits......they had some cools ideas........the end......just like Live...that band should have owned the world...they were on their way to being immortal....all the parts we in alignment......no more tunes..then creed and nickle came in stole the thunder with generic radio hits...and destroyed the whole thing by giving people a litlle of what they we missing...but taking them to a new place......pop punk took over for the kinds...then imo...screamo and here I am fixing crappy drum tracks for them..

A little OT but, I've never really been able to get into bands that try to swing a political message (the one exception being The Clash).

ANY band that can sell out arenas on a daily basis is hardly a one hit wonder. I highly doubt they measure their success on radio and video play.
That said, I loved the first two records and listen to them a ton. Dave Abruzzi was my favourite PJ drummer though, then Jack Irons. I don't really enjoy Matt Cameron with Pearl Jam all that much, he was amazing with SG though!

Put on track 1 (Go!) from VS. and crank it up. You will be hard pressed to find a more rocking song than that.

Peace.

Wow, how quickly this turns to a battle of fans versus haters.

If you don't like them, then don't like them. But for a grown man to come to this thread just to diss a successful band, that is pathedic.

What prompted it? They are giving away a free single? That should not be reason to bash anyone. That is a nice thing to do for their fans.

If you are here just to argue nonsense, take it to the "moan zone" and start your very own thread. This thread is about a free single released by a successful rock band. Take your bitch elsewhere.

P.S. Thanks to COLD SNOW for the heads-up about the song!!

I consider him to be in the shadow of the late, great Andrew Wood.

but what the **** do i know? My Daddy listened to John Denver.

I liked earlier Pearl Jam. stopped digging them when Jack Irons stepped onto the throne though. But i think that was more having to do with Vedder doing more of the writing and actually trying to play an instrument... and thus the musical content went south.

they're still every bit as much entertaining live, however.

the fact of the matter is Stone and Jeff are the heart and soul of that band. and they have been in every band they've started since Green River. As soon as they stopped doing the bulk of the writing, i stopped liking new Pearl Jam material.

Although both of their guitarists and their bassist were THE BAND for the project Temple of the Dog that you love so much(I do too) and Mother Love Bone? You know Eddie Vedder contributed some main vocals & most of the backups on the Temple album?

Pearl Jam a one hit wonder? Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Daughter, Dissident Rearviewmirror. hmmm.....Pretty good songs. Definite "magic" happening there, in my opinion. They have that ability to send shivers down your spine if you are open. I wasn't a fan when they came out but when I finally gave them a chance, it worked for me.

Temple is one of my all time favorite albums & yes that is mostly because Chris Cornell is unreal on those songs, and Matt Cameron is too. But to trash Pearl Jam on that level is just plain weird.

I suppose you are just having some fun by trying to get a reaction out of people. Guess it worked with me.

Cheers.

I don't know about what hits came from what records and when, but I have heard a lot of Pearl Jam songs that I like.

I'll have to check out this new stuff.

Pearl Jam is one of my fav bands, and without a doubt, the best concert I've ever seen! Seen them twice now, and the one just recently (summer 2005) was unbelievable. They played for about three hours, played every song you could hope for, including a couple sweet covers (Rockin in the Free World, for example), and just rocked! Eddie is amazing... I just about sh%t my pants the first time I saw them, and he did the first verse and chorus and I think the second verse just him and his tele.... unbelievably talented. He never misses a note, even though he's pissed most of the time, and has great tone. I don't exactly love their more recent work, but the first three or four records were killer (my fav is Vs).

I can't believe there's so much controversy over PJ! Each to their own, I guess .

McBalls

P.S. I highly recomend earplugs for their concert, it was painfully loud, and Stone's strat tone is rediculously bright. Don't mean to be a bitch, but the volume really was unbearable.

You're right. I don't know if you are referring to my post, among others, but regardless I'm deleting it. My apologies.

I react very strongly to any discussion of Pearl Jam because of how much I loved the band when Ten came out. I felt so betrayed when I kept liking their albums less and less, so now I'm like a bitter ex-lover. Sorry again. My brother, who loves Pearl Jam now more than ever, and I have gotten into fistfights over these issues.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. To me in rock and roll if you don't have anything to say then why have lyrics at all. Love the energy Eddy and the band put into their songs and beliefs. Anyways, I really like the new song but I am a huge fan, have been for about 14 years now, so I'm probably a little bias.
