Thread Starter | Superlux ECM-999 or ECM-8000 for Measurment
I did a search here for both, and came up with little useful information. Q: for measurement purposes, is the Superlux more desirable than the Behringer? Both appear to use a Panasonic capsule, and both appear Made In China. |

| Gear Head | Superlux ECM 999 Rocks
The Superlux ECM-999 Are truly amazing (all Behringer products I have owned have owned broke or were full of noise) I have used a lot of overhead mics but the ECM-999 takes the cake you can here it all flat as a pancake, the kick comes thru like you are in the room. Email me for a MP3 of just 2 of these mics as overheads. Thanks Doyen www.audiohipster.com

I'm the last guy on earth you would call a Behringer fan, but that mic works fine as a measurement mic. The first one that I had was defective (yeah, I know...), the second one works great. Oddly enough, I know someone that uses a pair of them as overheads, and they work way better than I ever expected. Haven't compared it to the Superlux, though. js |

Yeah, the ECM8000's are good mics. I have a pair of TC30's and where the earthworks are better, not by as much as they should be.

ECM8k is a very decent mic except for the noise. It also has a little higher distortion than pro grade mic's so expect it to perform according to that. The mic is typically very flat up to hmm.. could it be 2k or so. There's a 1-2dB hump centered at 10k or so. Don't remember exactly how accurate it is down low but if memory serves it is within a dB or so down to 30-40Hz or so. The distortion is high enough making it unsuitable for high level distortion measurements and measurements in the top octaves of high performance speakers. IOW it is perfectly fine for checking room modes and basic speaker work (summing of x-over, dispersion and so on). I have heard it on voice and guitar and it simply sounds like it should according to physics. Not very different from Earthworks omnis. /Peter |

They are very good mics sound as good as any in my studio, I used them as overheads and they beat all the competition the R102 are a close 2nd, they would rock as room mics. Take a listen if you like www.audiohipster.com If you want to pick up the whole drum set with 2 mics nothing can beet them under 800 star whistles. Worth every penny AUdioHipSter |
