I have one- bought it at a music store used years ago for $20 or $30 dollars. It was used mostly as a kind of deluxe 58 type vocal mic....and to tell you the truth, (with over 70 mics and climbing) I cant remember the last time I used it... sorry I cant be more help. Guitar and bass cabinets would be my guess as well though...

The AKG D330BT was the first AKG I ever owned. I still have two of four that I bought. It was used mostly in PA/Live sound as it has a hypercardiod pattern and works well when a SM58 doesn't. Careful with the male XLR on the bottom, the plastic mount that holds it in place often breaks with heavy use or when your remove it from a tight mic cable.

Their close relatives (320 and 310) can be pretty good on snare, maybe a bit more brightness than a 57 if I remember. I need to get my 320 back from an unintentional permanent loan . . .

Watch out for those things on drums! I got brave and used a pair for toms once when they were still new and blew them both out. I got them swapped for new ones, but I learned the hard way.

Hell, I use the D320B as a main vocal mic. I've always sounded better through AKG dynamics than Shure's in general, especially those intended for instruments, such as D690, D770, and lately 320B. I think the 320 was intended to be used as an SM57, and the 330 more of a 58, intended for vocals. Like a 57 or a 58, they shine when run through a kickass pre. I wouldn't call them brighter than a 57 or 58, more like a mild midrange hype, which is not as smooth as the Shures, but produces increased intelligibility.
I think that's why I like these mics, and the C2000B for that matter- I'm a story teller, and I don't really care how good it sounded if the story got lost in the music. AKG dynamics simply get the words across, like old Beatles recordings.-Richie

All three AKG 310,320B,330BT were all the same mic. The 310 had no features, the 310B had a 3-position bass rolloff and the 330BT had the bass rolloff and 3-position treble boost.

Thanks for the info Audiogaff! Info on old AKG dynamics can be hard to come by. Well I can definitely verify that it is a very usable vocal dynamic. -Richie
