Thread Starter | MC77 or Daking Fet II as Primary Vocal Compressor - Tracking & Mixing
About to pull the trigger on a Purple MC77, but have also heard excellent things about the Daking comp, which also is a little cheaper and if I got another in the future would have a sweet buss comp. as well(from what I hear). Of course, the answer is "both"(and eventually I will get both), but any additional recommendations for one or the other as my primary vocal comp. are appreciated. All kinds of vocals. And probably other things as well, but should shine on vocals. Have used a reissue 1176 and liked it, but never a Purple. Probably can't go wrong either way. Thanks! |

I have the Purple's and I love them. I haven't had a chance to mix with them yet because none of my projects are done tracking yet that I've worked on since I got them. I have a pair. They great for tracking drums, bass, guitars... and I'm sure vocals but I haven't gotten there yet. Can't say anything about the Dakings other than they make great stuff... never personally tried the comp.

Love the Purple (yes, on vox too among other things), and I really want to try the Dakings. I'm sure I will soon actually.

I would do a MC77 and TT CL1B(change the tubes) or a MC77 and La2a. I also never mix a vocal through the same comp i track it with. |

I hope it's safe to assume that chaining comps is more for mixing than tracking. If you had all 3 (maybe you do) would you do something like track with the LA2A, and mix with the MC77 --> CL1B? Or are you saying that you usually track with MC77, and then mix with either the CL1B or LA2A? Thanks in advance.

I do like all of the above as options for tracking vocals. When the MC77 doesn't work one of the other 2 does that's why its good to have options. They each impart something different that works well in whatever productions.

you really cannot go wrong either way. so i say get the Daking (for now) as its less expensive. i like the TFPRO P38 alot, i believe it to be more versatile than either comps plus its stereo. but thats really a whole other can of worms. and i dont meant to distract you.
