| I've got one - 8816
I've got one on my rental list. Went out last week (the day after it arrived!) for a week long live recording of Barroque music. Was used as a mix down for monitoring & Dat safety copy. Comment from the engineer: "loved the clarity". I should admit that my posting may be a bit slanted, as I am the Spanish distributor for AMS Neve (have been for 25 yrs!). However, I am also a user & have practically every outboard they've put out since the RMX16 & DMX15-80. (See my rental list at www.kashprod.com). Also have a studio with AudioFile SC & Logic 1 digital console. So, I know the factory...I know the products. Curious as to why all the hoopla about one user who badmouthed the 8816 & then everyone said things like "what do you expect?". A new product, aimed at an audience completely out of the normal range of their other products! Exciting news. Give it a try. Contact your dealer. My first batch are all gone, and I'm waiting for the second order to come in. Made in China? Burnley was in the U.K. last time I looked! Not Neve? The two guys in charge of the 8816 have been in the company since early Rupert days. Jim Kash |

| Summation for Neve 8816
I gave the 8816 a test drive the other week and must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The noise floor was extremely quiet and the sonic signature was somewhere between the 88R and a classic neve, but probably more towards the 88R. The low end extension was amazing and the high end was quite "soft". The transients were "cushioned" slightly probably due to the transformer mixing stage, this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what style of music you do, in my case it was pop rock so it was ok. I didn't get a chance to check out the other features too much as I was only interested in the sonics of the unit for mixing (set and forget). I set all channels to unity gain, 4 channels panned centre and the rest as stereo pairs. Makes a big difference when you have the abililty to stem out your multitrack and sum in the analogue domain, even makes mixing quicker because you aren't fighting for clarity as if you were mixing out 2 outputs of tools! I work on both SSL and NEVE consoles and also in the digital domain with summing boxes yeilding great results on all, and having tried a number of summing boxes this one is up there. As far as other functions are concerned you are going to have to ask someone else!!
