Thread Starter | How would you treat this room?
The control room is my first concern as I will be mixing a record there soon. The live room will be next, or should I say the love room. Any and all suggestions are apprecieated. Thank you. |

I'd skip the wall canting... related thread here: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=2140 Put in an broadband absorptive ceiling or extensive BBA cloud - very cool cloud thread here: http://www.recording.org/ftopict-26889.html and then I'd build SuperChunks into the corners [an unbeatable broadband absorber!]. description here: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=535 Then I'd Add broadband absroption panels to the walls as needed to get your RT down to your target either by building frames or using a store bought bag and roll your own approach - related link for a DIY bag em solution http://www.readyacoustics.com/prodde...hp?prod=RT422B then I might add a few polys as needed to defeat any remaing flutter echo adding diffusion - descriptive link on polys here [scroll to the bottom]: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=48 some better looking polys here [look at both pages]: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=1851 Good Luck! PS: A different sort of room - with different goals - but an effective and cool looking corner absorber + poly room treatment - follow the links at the top of this thread [a classic "Bob Gold's - Hidden Jewels of the Internet" post]: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=2134 |

You may want to consider making your control room larger .....the shape looks good, but maybe going out 3 or 4 feet further would still give you enough live room to work with..... You will most likley want to mix from the center of the control room, and it will get pretty crampt in there if you and a band are all listening to playback or mixing down. The back corner would be a great place to create a big floor to cieling bass trap by "clipping off" the corner to form a 3 or 4 foot tringle...filled with insulation board and covered in fabric. Increasing the overall size of the control room would allow you to do that. The other 2 back walls could be covered with diffusers, and foam traps near the cieling. Using lots of acoustic foam in the front of the room, and on the cieling above the mix position would really help in a small room. Just my 2 cents Brotha!

The centeroid of this control room is exactly 38% from the front wall....+ or - 1% I was simply pointing out that the he may want to consider making the control room portion of his space larger. Peace.

Just curious, Are you in the process of framing and building this layout, or is this still in the planning stages? Is this approx. 20' x 20' space in your basement?
