"making of pump" vs "some kind of monster"

just saw these 2 films full of gear and musicians trying to come up with an album.

not that pump is really my taste (although i DO remember buying it as a teen) but i found it quite inspiring. i thought the guys in aerosmith were very impressive in their attitude and work ethic. and joe perry rips a couple mean solos on that album...also tyler is just hilarious and full of life and enthusiasm to be in a band and create tunes. very entertaining.

whereas, i truly was about to barf watching some kind of monster. it was just sad and boring watching these guys try to make product.

i know this is not really "gear" but...

i DID see some very nice neve and la-2as around the room in the "pump" sessions. ha!

opinions?

I found both entertaining though the Areosmith video was better from a songwriting perspective. I thought Some Kind of Monster was hilarious. I loved the head Dr. they brought in and how he eventually was trying to write lyrics with them even though he probably could have done a better job if they let him.

It was quite evident that Rock earned every penny for that album that they payed him. Just to have the patience to deal with such immature ****s. :D

You don`t need any more gear, you need to re-write the chorus.

I saw Some Kind of Monster and The Fearless Freaks (Flaming Lips) both in the same week.....While both were entertaining......the Metallica film was more of a comedy from a viewers perspective. No respect for any band members, just a big corprate company trying to still make money.

The Fearless Freaks was about as polar opposite as you could get. If you haven't yet seen it, I highly reccomend it. There isn't very much "studio" footage, but you definatly see the other side of how a great band can work together to make IMHO some of the best music today.

Hands down best scene in Some Kind of Monster was Bob Rock rolling over Lars foot with the Studio chair..
