Oh my, I used to have one of those. I remember it being pretty cool but noisy. But that was also before I knew what real tone was!

There's a gate on there that was moderately useful if it was set right. All (well, most) of that Scholz stuff sounded exactly the same...just like the Boston guitar sound. You either like it or don't. I think it also has that Rockman chorus sound on the clean settings.

I'm not sure if I'd have any use for it now, but it was cool in its day.

I picked one up for $35 a few years ago. It's a neat toy and that's about it. If you really love that Boston guitar tone this might be your box lol. I sort of like the compressor and the gate, to bad so much shit happens after that!

At least you can ground that one in an old house.

I've got one of those. The distortion sounds definitely sound like a Boston record...which is cool if you want that sound, but kind of unavoidable if you don't. What I really dig it for are the clean (and CLEAN2) sounds: that iconic 80's techno-pop rhythm guitar sound, ultra-compressed sparkly CHING-CHANG. Best if used with a Strat in the "out of phase" pickup position.

(BTW, there's no chorus built in to the Sustainor. And mine has a 3 prong AC plug too.)

No? I can't remember. So, what is the difference between the two clean channels? Was one brighter than the other or something like that? I remember there was some sort of difference...

Sort of, though it's more than just the high end. Clearly both CLEAN1 & CLEAN2 have a pantload of equalization going on, so my guess is that the center frequencies of *all* these peaks & dips are different. They both yield a thin, bright sound, but CLEAN2 has a wider notch in the lower mids & the lift in the upper treble seems to be at a higher frequency.

heyman,

it seems that the overdrive settings effect cln 1
but not the fabled cln2

anyone use these on drums or vocals?

Question

Hi. I found this forum by doing a Google search, which led me to this thread. I just joined, and here I am adding to a thread that's just short of 2 years old. Oh well....

OK... I'm looking for enlightenment on the difference between a Rockman Sustainor 100 and a Rockman Sustainor 200, and how can you tell them apart? Neither 100 nor 200 is specified on the unit that I have here, and I can't locate the manual atm. It was mfg on August 28, 1987... I found something that led me to believe the date a Rockman was mfg had some significance, but I don't recall what that was, and can't find any references to it.

Any info will be appreciated!

Thank you!
