best x/y(/z?) midi controller

i know theres a korg chaos pad, and the thing onthe new alesis photon midi controller, the thing on the roland boards, what else is there.

im dying for something to help me control the pitch in my middle eastern samples in real time (pitch wheels are unintuitive and boring)

so..like a midi theremin.or pad....but not 4 grand....

any suggestions?
