Need a DVD burner-What make should I get?Plextor?

Need it for burning cds and for dvd home movies.Saw the Plextor 740UF for $49.00 at tigerdirect.com,but wasn't sure about that model.Seems its more the lower end of Plextor and I thought maybe I should be getting a higher model.

Seems Plextor is popular.Any other makes I should look at?DO most of them do Red Book cds?

Thanks,
Pete

I don't know for sure but I'd guess that at $49 that's a rebranded drive, not a true Plextor. I've got a Plextor Premium CD burner and a PX-716A DVD burner that have been great. Lite-On makes some nice drives too.

Yes,I believe your correct.I think its a BenQ.Normally like $150,but tiger had it on sale.Probably better that I held off;the 716 looks like it might be the ticket.

Thanks

Don't let the low price fool you. I have 3 of these burners and they rock. Just check the reviews on the link.

The great thing about the Plextor premium drives is that you get Plextools Professional software included. You can check errors...blah...blah.. Worth the $.

Regards,
Bruce

I have the Plexor 716A also. The cool thing is that the DVD-DL burning speed keeps getting faster. They release firmware updates every couple months.

I have always liked Plextor, as they only make CD (and now DVD) burners, unlike Sony or Yamaha or NEC who make a gazillion other products.

Plextor has always seemed to be the most on-top of CD-R technology, and their drives are robust and well-built. I was a big fan of their SCSI CD and CD-R drvies back in the Wave Digital days, and I just upgraded my 4-drive duplicator with Plextor DVD-R/CD-R drive units.

Can't say enough good things about them. I've used Lite-On as well when customers wanted a budget drive - the big difference for me was construction quality an MBTF ratings.
