Does a Sony DMXR100 still make sense?

Fellow sluts, I am confused again.

I traded my Ghost mixer years ago for a Tascam DM24...

While I liked being able to save presets for my elaborate drum mic setups, the actual sound of the mixer was never all that good. And the lack of headroom made mixing or 'summing' kinda' pointless and frustrating. These days the Tascam has been reduced to a headphone monitor mixer.

So I'm debating something like a used DMXR100. I like the interface (24 faders is a minimum for me). And the sound is supposedly good/clean, automation decent, etc.

But is it a waste of time and money to get a board that is discontinued and unsupported?

I know feature wise the Yamahas seem to outrank the Sony, but I just don't like the layout on those boards... For me it seems like a choice between a DMXR100, an old analog board (no automation or control surface properties... bummer) or a summing mixer like the Folcrum or the x.mix.

THoughts? Opinions? Sharp blows to the cranium?

THNX.

...i read in a thread here in GS Forum that George Massenburg has one at home....shouldn´t be so bad, right?
in my opinion the sony console is a good mixer for that price, i think there are some cheap on ebay from time to time. a friend of mine has one, and he is still happy with it...since 4 years now.

hope this helps a little
