Dave Matthews Vocal Chain?

Does anybody out there know what vox chain Dave Matthews uses? The track is called "Dreamgirl".

Thanks,
Chris

I can tell you they own an API Legacy... not sure if that helps.

I'd say it starts at the lungs, then up the throat, vocal chords, mouth, then finally his lips.

I'm kidding, but you see my point too....

You beat me to it!

Dave Mathews would sound like Dave Mathews through any vocal chain. An API sure doesn't hurt, though.

I think there's a dvd that comes with their latest cd. I watched it and it takes you thru much of the recording/production process. I watched it before I was a slut so I don't remember any of the equipment but there is a ton of it visible throughout the dvd.

Last time I was out at their studio their FOH/Studio Manager Jeff showed me the ELA M 251 that is used for most of Dave's vocals. I believe they also have a new production Telefunken 251 which is used as a back up and for "away" sessions so the main mic doesn't have to travel. Not sure about the pre or compressors, etc. Maybe a Neve? The console there is a Legacy. Anyway, hope that helps.

I'd like to put a "vocal chain" around Dave's neck (not that it would sound any different, as he kind of sings like he's being strangled), just so I wouldn't have to hear that m*the$f*ck$r any more. He definitely gets "most annoying singer" award from me.

Sorry for the OT, guys - I'm outta here.

This makes me laugh. I do clean the toilets at my house sometimes... Anyway, It was a U47, Neve type pre, and a vintage 1176. Not all that mysterious.
