I have been using a " 60 minutes / Andy Rooney style " desk for my cpu , 1 set of my monitors , keyboard + 2 little side rolling racks for outboard gear . Yesterday I bought a desk off of craigslist ( pictured below ) and I have a few questions that I would greatly appreciate it if someone could chime in on. Please excuse the ignorance 1 . Even though most basic Rta / Raxxess desks offer racks right under the monitor / speakers , is this not ideal ? Mainly , could the vibrating of monitors ( even if decoupled ) have a negative effect on the gear racked directly below it ? 2 . With the top racks on the desk being so closed in , should I not put my 2 ua 6176s up there ? Will it get too hot ? Or if I can , should they be spaced ? I 'd like to use all of the space but not at the expense of my equipment . I don't have the cash for spacer /fans right now . 3 . Where is the best spot to place my power conditioner ? Even though it's the furman with the lights ( meaning rack at the top to take advantage of lights ) it seems to me that if I wanted to keep audio / power cables as separate as possible and not parallel then putting power conditioner on the bottom would be better so I wouldn't have to send all of the power cables from the gear below upwards . 4 . This desk has 4u on each side and 12 u on the bottom right . If I have 4 pres , 002 , digimax lt , hp amp , patchbay and a series of digital ( dbx / lexion ) should I keep all pres in a separate rack from power conditioner ? 5 . What is the safest distance to have between my monitors and my Glyph drives ? They shouldn't be too close b/c of magnets right ? But I would like to keep em pretty close so I guess the better way to ask this question is " what is the closest my drives can be ? ( pretending that drive noise wasn't an issue Thank you very much ! |

Dude, first of all you worry a whole lot, chill out, none of the things you have sugested is in no way a huge no-no but okay some quick tips. 1. No, very much no. Well depending on the size of you monitors, i wouldn't put vintage tube gear on a live pa sub, but with nearfields you have nothing to worry about. People have been putting there monitors on consoles since the beginning of nearfield monitoring. 2. First of all, yeah you do have cash for spacers, they cost like 5 € on thomann here in europe anyway. Can't really speak for it otherwise, don't own the unit. 3. If you're running balenced this shouldn't be a big problem but you generally you want to keep power from audio, but i don't think you need to go through miles of inconvinience just to place that furman. Just don't coil mic cables and your power cords together. 4. Just place the things you work with as close as possible, wouldn't worry much about that, has never been a problem for me before. 5. Are you running CRT screens? cause with lcds i have never heard of this being a problem. At all. Maybe this is commen practice but i have never, ever cared about this and have had to date no failed harddrives and I love screens, got three in my setup now and no problems. |
