can the zed r16 do this (or the mackie or any mixer)

I'm a bit confused if the zed r16 (or any other firewire mixer) can do what I want.

I usually record all my gear (synths and drum machines) live in one take to a stereo file "playing" the mixer - eq, mutes, effect sends - as I go.

It is my understand that these firewire mixer allow one to record 16 tracks to the computer and then use the mixer hardware for mixing after the fact, but can it also record everything I'm doing while recording as automation in my DAW?

ie:

I start my daw recording, start my gear playing, "play" the mixer (muting, fading, fx sends, eq adjustments) and it record all that for adjustment. I end up with 16 tracks of audio recorded straight (no actual eq changes, mutes, etc. recorded) with all my tweaks as automation that I can then edit as needed?

In the end, my recording style involves a lot of playing the mixer and I'd love a way to capture it all and have the ability to go back and edit it afterward - so any advice toward this goal would be very appreciated.

Thanks for all input and advice.

From what I can read, the pres send to the DAW directly after the pre and HP filter. So mute, fader riding, panning, etc... will not record to the DAW.

BUT! There are channels with a button that says 'DIG SND Post-EQ', in which case it will send digital signal AFTER the EQ and insert point.

That's all I could find on a quick search though.

Good luck dude.

Thanks for your input. I really need to dig into the manual (which I normally do) but figured I might as well ask in case anyone knows for sure.

You could do this,
In my case, nuendo, i could assign the midi fader buttons on the zed sliders to the the recording imput sliders in nuendo giving me recording volume control via the zed sliders. You could even write the incomming automation.
And you can record from the zed using e.q./inserts/panning.
That would cover it.
