I did some samples with the 512s and Classic API pres. I got tied up and ran out of time just as I was setting up the Devils, but I will finish on Sunday.

It is not technical. It is a Les Paul through a Marshall TSL and Vintage 30 cab. I know a lot of people hate this amp. So do I. But there is one spot where if you get it right, it breathes fire.

I had a 57 and a Royer up with each running rough one channel of the pair. I also did a sample from Lead, Crunch, and Clean Channels. No eq or comp into my Apogee and Pro Tools. though not identical tracks, I can say that I'm REALLY surprised with the sounds so far. I'll leave it at that for now.

I'm pretty excited about this.

Yo yo fellow 'Slutz... Just got the little test finished up and posted.

Mic Pre Test with SM57 and Royer 101 - Chandler, API, Classic API

Check out the link for audio files and samples. I'm really curious to hear everyone's opinion. It really surprised me!!! All three pres are completely different beasts!!! Plus I used an SM57 and Royer R101 in the test if anyone wants to hear that mic.

Me, too. I can't find any reviews of the Little Devil pre on guitars aside from a couple user reviews at Sweetwater--which are glowing.

We have reviews coming in Recording mag, Tape Op, and Mix. I hope that will help!
We also made a video comparing our pres but are still editing it.

Just used my pair on a reamp session this past week on a Marshall/Vintage 30 setup. I was definitely happy with my tone. Using the reamped DI, I was able to really play with the Devils a bit more, specifically the Feedback control. It is a very versatile pre, and I just keep getting more satisfied each time I use them.

The setup that I keep going back to is a 57 and Royer combo with the Devils... Although, I will say that I was very impressed with the Classic API VP26s too. They are a totally different sound, but they are extremely smooth. Both pres slay on guitars with those mics.

I'm really curious to see how they stack up to the Neve console in a studio I will be working in next month... That's gonna be a tough one, but I'm really curious to see the results.

Since I don't have a 500-series rack I'm waiting for the 1RU version to come out.

Any idea of when this will happen?

Hi guys
I intend to buy the little devil compressor this weekend but have no lunchbox rack (nor intention to buy one).
I got the impression one of the sides is open and that'd be a bummer to keep it standing on my desk (gathering dust on the circuits).

Can anyone confirm if the unit is fully enclosed in a box.

Many thanks in advance

I don't think it is enclosed - also how are you planning on using the LD Comp w/o the power or in/out connectors supplied by the lunchbox?

here are some for sale (for the pictures) http://www.gearslutz.com/board/gears...mpressors.html

thanks superwack.

I know I have to buy a PSU (first time I come across such a thing) so that'll be £250 extra,
but I imagine the LD comp will have the standard connections (jack or XLR) in the back. Is this not the case?

No, it does not have the connectors... all 500 series modules have a card connector only - that mates with the one in the lunchbox/rack and the rack supplies the power and the ins/outs.

thanks again superwack
Blimey! Guess I'm better off buying the Germanium Compressor.
It'll end up costing me the almost same and it'll be a notch up from the LD

Here's a pic of the proto type.
It is meant to be an English type amp. It is not a copy though. 19 watts with el84s, ez81, ecc83, and ecc803.
You can change the bias of the gain stage, there is a shape control on the power section that controls the mid range and distortion characteristics, and the tone section is set up like a boost pedal. You can you use it to drive the circuit like you would a treble boost pedal. It has a very wide range of frequency boost.
The first one was borrowed by the Foo Fighters for the recording of the Sound City project they are doing :-)

I need to find a shop that has the Chandler guitar pedals in stock. Just to understand the differences better. Anyone know of a comparitive review?

I have seen the Front End Audio Youtube and want more info. The Chandler Youtubes are probably currently the best available.

The pedals are still new so we are waiting for magazine reviews etc...It might be best to get with a dealer who will let you return them if they are not what you are after....???

I think Front End has them in stock.

It has two inputs that feed a single channel. They are set up with different impedance and gains though.

Im excited about this. I hope you guys get what I did

Thanks for your reply. I'll have to find one in the Denver area because I am the type that has to connect the knob to the tone in my addled brain.

I'll be more specific. My amp is a Mesa Mark V and I often play in jams and shows with 2 to 3 other guitarists. Because of that, the upper mids get congested and we like to keep the SPLs reasonable so I can't just crank it up to cut through. I haven't found a pedal that allows the string dynamics to cut through with plenty of low to midrange punch and growl. I've been tweaking the Mark V as best I can and it does pretty good with no distortion pedal - I'm just looking for more tonal range. I've gotten good results on a few tunes with the Satchuriator, so I'm looking for something different. It's like I want edge, bite and punch, just not with too much energy in the upper mids and above. Your Youtube makes me think the Ge Drive is most likely the tone I want.
