Vocal Coaching DVD's

I've been working with a vocalist who has raw talent. The vocalist knows that vocal coaching would be very helpful, but doesn't want to go that route. They mentioned that they WOULD like to check out a dvd or videotape to see what exactly goes on in a vocal coaching session.

I'd like to buy a dvd that is helpful, and would make a good gift for vocalists. Any suggestions? Hell, I'd like to watch one myself, even though my voice suc ks.

These people come recommended by someone I know from the Nasvhille area. I've got a breathing CD that I've never really been able to sit down and try out. But, he says they are the best.

My wife is a vocal coach in the Los Angeles area...

She's great and specializes in pop / rock vocals... especially if the student is female. She normally does the 1st lesson / consultation free of charge so the student can get a feel for things without having worry about spending $35 on what essentially becomes a meetandgreet.

I would hope most teachers would have a similar policy, but it wouldn't suprise me if they didn't.

If you want her info let me know and I'll give you contact info.

As for a DVD, I don't have a frickin' clue, I just wanted to pimp for the Mrs.

Tunes out.

P.S. She tries to include a lot of theory and general musicianship in the lessons. I have met people who have been taking lessons for 10 years and know dick about music. She strives (in the time allowed of course) to include some musicianship and overall sense of groove in the process.

Thanks for the offer tunesmith, but I'm really looking for something that I can give a client in jest and say "Hey, check this out... Big Shot Singer X checked it out and said it was helpful". Doing something like that can be done in a much more tactful way than just flat out telling a vocalist they suck and need serious help.

It's a lot easier to get a better vocal sound with talented singers than to try to make up for it with crafty compression and other processing.

Nothing beats watching a coaching session in person over a DVD,
let alone personal lessons.

Sorry I can't help you on any DVD's, however, if you'd ever like a
list of some of the best books ever written on voice let me know.
(they really work!)

Sure.
Rather than derailing this thread into books over DVD's though,
I'll post a new thread here later this evening with "the list".
Have to get back to work now!
