Thread Starter | Drum Sample Phase
How do you guys layer in your drum samples? I've been using Slate's trigger and then manually moving each hit to align better with the original track but I'm in a bit of a rut. Is it best to have the sample start exactly when the original hit does, regardless of how the overall phase is or is it better to have the sample a little early/late in order to make the overall phase better? Here are a few pictures to show what I mean. In both pictures the top track is the recorded drum and the bottom track is the sample. ![]() ![]() Obviously, the right answer is use your ears, but my ears need some reinforcement.

If you're interested, I just put online a 15 snare samples library recorded using high end gear (Vintech, Lavry...). I tried to get the best combination phase-wise of top and bottom samples : they are phase aligned but with a real tiny "delay", that's how it sounded the best to my ears.
