Recorded this in November/December of last year in a day or so. Please excuse the vocals, as I'm not really a singer. Justin Taylor-Insane - YouTube |

I guess I can toss out another recently completed bit. Again, sorry for samples only, but waiting to get a couple more things in place before doing full releases. As per usual... Recorded in a bedroom closet into a $150 interface Vocals 4060 Guitars, bass 57 Mixed 100% itb in Logic via ipad in a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero (and checked occasionally on HR824's )enjoy edit. oops, sorry, let's see if this is working now.. should be updated siggy with new track. GS's automated rules about signatures seem to be tripping me up at the moment. Should be "Hypnotized."

Here's one that literally came to me in a dream. I put it up on Youtube to celebrate Lucinda Williams' birthday. For the gearheads, it's almost all Flea microphones. THIS BROKEN HEART.mov - YouTube -R |

This post has been staring at me for too long. I guess I'll bite. Just finished this song a few weeks ago. The Truth by glitchfactor on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free Performed/recorded/mixed/mastered by myself. Although I wish I hadn't! ;-) Well, except the live bass blended in on the verses. I COULD have played it, but when I first started this song, it wasn't going to be ALL me, so I let another band member do it (from my old band). -Justin

I did most everything by myself. I tracked 90+% of it in a spare bedroom. I had someone play drums on 4 songs and some other instruments on 1 song in a pro studio. And I didn't mix it. I think it sounds pretty darn good. Cranky Chris - Tunes Whad'ya think? I'd like to know. |

Here ya go. Very light compression really and a 1DB or so of API2500 plug in mastering plus Brainworx XL....I'm about to go bass trap crazy in my small 9X11 room but what else are my problems based on these mixes? thanks. http://soundcloud.com/seanmormelo/southern-paradise http://soundcloud.com/seanmormelo/one-drink-short-of http://soundcloud.com/seanmormelo/goodbye-la-hello-tennessee |

I apologize for taking you to another thread for this one, but GS won't let me post the same song twice. This one was done about 2 weeks ago, and this is the 6th incarnation of this song (we can't seem to leave well enough alone). It seemed to be missing something on all of the others, but now it's a bit heavy on the kick (you'll see what I mean if you have a sub). Post your Low End Mixes Some history on the "band". It's me and my brother. That's it. We're currently looking for more members.

Figured I'd chime in on this thread...... The Vertical Interval (our page at Bandcamp - stream all the songs instantly) Music I've done with my friend Jennifer McGrath. We both sing, play guitar and keys... some songs she writes, some I do.... I play drums and bass and produce/mix the tracks. Recording process: - any vocals by me were/are recorded with an AKG C2000B condenser (Behringer mixer into an M-Audio Delta 44 - no pre). Jen's vocals recorded on a Rode NT1a in her studio (Presonus Firebox). - any acoustic guitars miked with Jen's Rode NT1a (left-handed Martin acoustic/electric... thinner-than-regular-acoustic body). - synths/drum machine stuff provided by Reason 4, or various freeware VSTs, including the U-No 60 (Juno-60 emulation) - bass guitar is a Fender Jazz bass - electric guitars are Fender Strats, into Line6 Toneport DI Gold - drums played live by me on an electronic kit... triggering Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 drum sampler/VST. - DAW - Sonar Home Studio 6 We keep the vocals in the background... we like that shoegazey/dreamy sound. Hope you guys and girls dig. I don't share this link publicly usually (especially since we're working on finishing this album for this project) but... it's available to fully stream and it's cheap, too. Just curious about what you guys think of the songwriting as well as the mixes. Positive feedback is completely appreciated.... Try to listen on anything but laptop speakers of course. ![]() Much love, Chris |

You might want to take a further look at that snare, though. It was a bit too prominent for my taste....and a little uneven. Good stuff. ![]() That Dress

I like your distinctive funky style. IMO, the lead vocals should be a tad lower level, making the rest of the arrangement more prominent.. Quote:

The vocals need to be more up front on the song Save Us. Play with EQ. Snare drum feels mechanical and I think it would really help your band to use a real drummer. I like her singing style- In the Dark. Programmed drums sound too stiff again. It can work, but it takes a lot of time and effort. Rhythm guitar competes with her voice/frequencies. Maybe brighten up the vocals? [QUOTE=themixtape;7574187]Figured I'd chime in on this thread...... The Vertical Interval (our page at Bandcamp - stream all the songs instantly) |

I watched the first two minutes and I got tired of the constant unchanging image. The video should be at least as good as the sound/music. Hey- just my opinion. Quote:

Thanks for the tips about "Save Us"... I know the snare is loud/prominent... I wanted it like that. The vocals are buried, because we like that dreamy style.... I'll keep it in mind for future mixes, though. For trip-hop fans.... check this out. An album I released in 2004 with my friend Jenna Ferone. recording: all vox with an AKG C2000B into a Behringer MX2004A mixing board (using the built-in pre's) into an M-Audio Delta 44... software was Sonar Home Studio. Beauty's Confusion - Playlist - YouTube Or a direct link to three of our songs "Silhouette", "City", and "Whirlwind" (the music/beat of Whirlwind was written by Rom DiPrisco of Bitstream Dream... we wrote the vocals for it... a lot of people dig that tune) Appreciate any and all positive feedback. Thanks, and much love to you all. |

I can't thank the training staff at the Reston VA Apple Store enough for helping me to finally get up and running in Logic Pro. Just two tone setting tests. Though my fingers and ears fail me, I'm moving forward still with lots to learn. Just testing the signal path in Logic Pro for the first time. I'm getting way better results than I imagined in a less than ideal living room studio setting. http://soundcloud.com/ogredaddy/logic-guitar-amp-test http://soundcloud.com/ogredaddy/bad-cat-hot-cat

Actually that (Belly) is a very cool track. ![]() I really like the organic quality of the instrumentation....that bass sounds great. Very nice mix as well. Those vocals are very distinctive. I was thinking, though, that it might have been cool to have them come from a little further away just at the beginning. My latest, btw...... The North Star |

Hey folks, this is my first post here on gearslutz I'm reading here for a long time and hope that I've learned a little bit...I'm recording demo tracks for my band, these things are mentioned to be pre-production recordings and for demo usage. So not claimed to be pro but I like to do my best for getting it as good as in my possibilities. I'm a mixing noob, but I like it as much as writing and playing the songs All songs will be re-recorded in a studio if they find their way on a real release... Style: I would say: "Alternative Rock"... mostly too soft for the heavy guys and too hard for the indie ones. Equipment: - Drums: Yamaha Beech Custom. Mics were Audix D6/I5/adx51, SM57, MD421s, NT-5s - Guitars: EVH 5150 MK III + Orange Tiny Terror + Engl Fireball -> EVH 5153 Cab -> Audix I5 - Bass: Warwick -> DI - Vocals: Audio Technica (don't know the exact type) - Mix ITB with Studio One V2, mostly S1 effects used + some freeware ones + Valhalla Room + Slate VCC + Slate FG-X. So it's a rehearsal room recording with untreated living room mixing I've mixed this one on my KRK RP5s ... one week later I've bought my new Dynaudio Bm5a MK II, good timing, I know.Next thing on my list is to treat my room for a better acoustic, but I have to get more know how before starting this. So, thank you for all the things I've learned, while reading here on this board. ![]() http://soundcloud.com/reset-to-zero/reset-to-zero-higher |

Hi! This is a most recent mix of my song "Hope". I wrote it, then recorded all the parts and did the mix myself. As for the recording chains... My DAW is Reason 6. My audio interface is a firewire MOTU MK2. I do my vocals with an AKG C414-ULS thru a Focusrite Voicemaster Pro. Also use the VM Pro as a DI for my Fender Bass. My acoustic guitar is an old Martin 00-18 which I mike to the AKG. For electric guitars I use a solidbody and hollowbody Gretsch thru a rackmounted SansAmp. Will gently re-amp using the Line 6 amps in Reason (they're not great but do add a little more depth if used gently). Here is the Soundcloud file... Cheers! http://soundcloud.com/raminstreets/hope-2-19 |

![]() Normally I use the I5 on top and the SM57 on bottom. In this case I've tried something new and used a Beyerdynamic Opus87 + an old Beyerdyamic M422 on top and the I5 on bottom of the snare. It was a little experiment but I like it. The M422 sounds weird alone but it has an awesome "stick hit" sound. The I5 was on the bottom and the SM57 on the smallest rack tom. I would recommend it if you are looking to SM57 style microphone which can be used in the same way with the same flexibility but with a bit different voicing. I prefer it on greenback style guitar speakers for a more crispy sound and it's nice to combine the sounds of both microphones. Or combine quad tracked guitars. Two with the SM57 and the others with the Audix. I would not give one of them a real "one over the other"...@rdstreets: I really, really like the old school style of your doubled and harmonic vocals. This has very good vibe. Cool song ![]() @Thefyn: epic snare reverb do you plan vocals on top of the song?
