Trying to use PT 7.0. Cry for help!

Okay. I'll try and make it simple here.

I bought a used Digi 002 with LE 6.7 and installed it. Worked great.

Then I upgraded online to LE 7.0. But it wouldn't work because is kept prompting me to put in my authorization code. First off, the email that Digidesign sent me as a receipt for the purchase of the 7.0 upgrade said that it has deposited the authorization code into an ilok account. Well, I didn't know that I needed an ilok account...I don't even have an ilok or an ilok account. Do I need to open an ilok account and go buy an ilok???? If I did this, would the authorization code be in my new account? How can they deposit an authorization code into a non existing account? I guess you need an ilok for PT LE 7.0? Trying to find this info on the Digidesign website is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I DID learn that you DO need an iLok for PT HD 7.0 but it made no mention of LE 7.0 needing one.

So then I decided to uninstall PT LE on my computer and reload 6.7 so I could actually do some work. I didn't really know how to uninstall 7.0 so I uninstalled 6.7 which worked. I didn't see any sign of PT 7.0 on my computer after this which I took to mean that it had uninstalled PT LE all together. Was I wrong? I then RE-loaded 6.7 in hopes to use it but when I try and open it, it gives me an error : shared library error: "4<Pro Tools PPC dbg><Pro Tools PPC dbg><DAE><FreeFic>"

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?

I tryed unloading PT and installing it again but it still gives me the same error.

Basically I've screwed myself to the point of tears. Very frustrating and this is my first experience with digital recording.

Tape rules. (no flames please)

PLEASE HELP ME?

J.Soda

Call Digi Tec support 650 731 6100

If you have purchased PTLE 7 in the last 30 days you have complementary support. they can tell if you need an ilok or not, if not, they can issue you an auth. code , and can walk you thru the install. Don't call between 12.00 and 1.00 Pacific time, they go to lunch Also it will take some waiting on the phone to get thru, but they are good and should be able to get you up and running. good luck Kevin.

J.Soda went throught the same thing@ got my a$$ in the car and drove to (of all places I hate to go) Guitar Center bought the iLok for 29 bucks (don't spend more!) and drove home and loaded it up. I am real happy with 7. Some great changes, yes the iLok is a pita, but you'll be up and sailing in no time so... you just have to do it. Soon everything will be iLoked so you'll need one anyway.

so whatcha waiting for get in our car

Digidesign did this because people were stealing the paid upgrades. All you needed was a serial code to install it, so people stole the serial codes. We have the thieves among us to thank for this.

Well, now you know that you need an iLok and an iLok account.

Yes.

I doubt it. Digidesign can't deposit an asset in an account that doesn't exist yet. Unless they deposited the asset into the account that was tied to the serial number of the 002. Did you fill out the ownership transfer form when you bought the 002?

They can't...unless they created one for you (unlikely).

Perhaps because you were reading documents that were for HD only?

Run the v7 installer and choose Uninstall from the pop-up menu that shows Easy Install by default.

That's because you haven't uninstalled the offending components.

If you realize after this that you must RTCD (read the compatibility documents), then your experience will have taught you something.

But...

Thanks everyone. And yes, I'll go and get a damn iLok.

BUT...

I did what you said and uninstalled 7 and then uninstalled 6.7 so the computer was free from everything PT. Then I installed 6.7 again and tried to open it. It didn't give me the same error but this time said that the "Digidesign hardware is in use by another application".

What the hell?

Help again please? And yes, I'm going to call DD on Monday but I was hoping to have this sorted out sooner.

Hi. First make sure that you quited all aplications. That error normally shows up when you are trying to use the PT software with an unsupported OS. But since you already opened it before...I do not know

When ever shit like this happens to me i always install a fresh copy of Windows.

Get back to the core.

You will find that you do this quite often so i recommend Norton Ghost.

Well, after unistalling and installing and then having the PT say that the DIGI hardware was in use by another application, I then realized that because I'm running Tiger, I had to upgrade to PT 6.9.2. So I did. And now it's peachy. All's good.

Thanks everyone. Operator error as usual.

A tech told me yesterday that you only need an ilok for PT if you're using plugs, which of course, everyone is so...

just so there is no confusion.

YOU DO NOT NEED AN ILOK FOR LE 7.

YOU DO NEED ONE FOR HD AND MPOWERED (both come with one).

THE PRO TOOLS INSTALLER HAS AN UNINSTALL OPTION ON THE MAC
ON PC USE THE "UNINSTALL (ADD/REMOVE) PROGRAMS" UTILITY.

IF YOUR HAVING PROBLEMS, DIGI HAS AMAZING TECH SUPPORT
(DONT BITCH IF YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, WOULD YOU RATHER FEEL LIKE YOU DO NOW?)
