Solution: Battery replacement for dps-r7

I banged my head on this issue for some time and want to get this on here for the archives for future knowledge. I read some posts about putting a battery clip on and I went to mouser and spent a good deal of time looking at batteries and clips and figuring out what to use. Here are the part numbers from mouser

www.mouser.com

the clip

614-HU2032-LF

the battery

658-CR2032

Once the clip is soldered then battery replacement is easy.

With the new battery in everything sounded much more open, like a spring day. Every detail came out in the reverb tails. Ok thats all bs but the battery works

Sony DPS-R7 battery replacement

I opened the unit up yesterday and saw that soldered battery and was like "what the ????" Thanks so much for this part! I ordered it and am so glad that you made my life easier when the battery goes out again!

Send a message via Skype™ to Bitsmith
... or even better - get a standard double AA battery holder and hot glue it to the rear panel (or elsewhere) and solder the leads to where the batter would go... it will last WAY longer.

The Service Manual doesn't specify which battery model should be used. But on page 32 (22 of the pdf scan) it does mention a Reference Number (BA501) and a Part Number (1-528-225-11), as we would expect. The later actually refers to Sony's own CR2032 replacement battery. So yes, any regular 2032 will do.

By the way, here's a few shots of the installation I did in my unit. I think it's better not to solder the holder directly onto the board, in order to avoid damage.
As you can see in the first picture, the PCB itself has a battery symbol drawn on it, so the polarity is easily checked. Should you need the full schematics of the CPU Board for some other reason, they're on page 20 (15 on pdf) of the Service Manual.
