sub synth sound

Anyone got any ideas how to get that sub-synth sound on drums? Nothingface does it, Korn and a few others.

Booom.

Any help appreciated,

Keith

Samples on top of the hits?

Plugs/outboard?

Plugs. Separate sub mixed with the hits. As an affect in periodic spots to create a swell. Trying to find how people create the samples. I know Korn uses their sample live off of a bar that the drummer hits when the sub is needed.

Thanks,

Keith

How about an oscaillator set for 40hz or whatever and the output patched to a gate? It's a way old hip-hop trick. You can set the release time for anything you want and key it off anything you want. Gates are cool.

Try a Resonant Filter...(yes we did just release one so this could be construed as blatant self promotion, but really it isn't...)

Probably just a single low pass filter with lots of resonance (Close to self oscillation), maybe with an envelope setting, or with no modulation. In most cases you probably want to use a two pole filter so that you get a big fat round boom sound.

Good luck with this, and hopefully it won't be construed as too much promotion.

samples

If you are working in a DAW this should be much of a problem...

Take an explosion sample and filter the high end. Add something like a Concert Bass drum...I am talking one of the BIG boys. Reverse the signal, add effects and put it back how it was originally. The effects will then be before the transiet. Toss in Noah's suggestion for good effect.

What this is all about is experimentation, find what is best for the song. These are just sugestions
