Dumb Question? Best sample rate for pop song! ?

Using guitar amps, Rhode Nt2a, Blue Sky (monitors) and Mackie 400F.

I guess I am asking for pop songs, music demos, is 44.1 fine, or better to go higher than dither down?

Thanks!

Its always better to go higher but the real question you need to ask yourself is whether or not your system can take the extra strain?

96 K means you,ll only get half as many plugs as 44.1 plus you,ll be using more than double the drive space and taxing your memory ,hard disk and c.p.u. to a greater degree.

I say **** it 44.1. k is cool unless you're going Neumann into Neve via manley and cranesong into a rack of hard drives and dual processor setup with dsp cards a plenty.

Just engineer the recordings well, beat a good performance out of the band and the sound will take care of itself.

48k... the difference over 44.1 is substantial, but the dsp penalty is almost non-existent. the next step up, 88.1, is a tiny improvement that sucks the cpu dry.
