Freelancing in Chicago

what are some good spots to freelance in Chicago if you are on a budget? I am a hobbyist that could use the space for drum tracking exclusively.

Check out Downbeat Studio. I've done some work there, and gotten good results. The guys that run it are super cool. Downbeat Studio

hm...$250 is a bit much for a studio that size, but I appreciate the suggestion. maybe I will call them soon.

Honestly, $25 /hour seems totally reasonable to me - just curious, what kind of rate would you expect them to charge?

Seriously? $250 a day (and that is including engineer) is probably too cheap for the city...their gear list isn't super great, but they have some nice mics and the room sounds good. Rent for a space that size on Chicago Ave. is not cheap.

yea I mean I guess anything below $250 just seems too low, but $250 for a space that only has two APIs as their outboard pres and is monitoring with the HS80M's its asking a bit too much in my opinion. there is something to be said for everything else they offer and it is a days worth of use. though when you find other professional studios with outlandish gear for 50 or 100 bucks more it makes the 250 seem over the top.

Electrical Audio is as good as it gets, but you probably won't like their rates.

yea its a bit steep for my clientele, but their prices are not completely absurd either. if I had the cash I wouldn't hesitate to give it a go at Electrical.
