Thread Starter | PMC DB1S-A or Dynaudio BM5A/BM5A Compact?
Hi guys, Now I'm looking for a pair of monitor ONLY for listening classical and Jazz. I like sound of BM5A but I wonder how's DB1S-A compare to it? I pick DB1S-A just because it made by PMC. Since no matter which one I go will get it from the Stats for lower price so the cost will be pretty much the same, BM5A is $850 a pr, DB1S-A will cost a grand. I'm in Vancouver(Canada) so I can listen to DB1S-A at nowhere!! WTS!!! I don't have too much experience with PMC speakers, but I will like full-bodied, natural sound, not too bright or too dark in high and detailed. Any input will be appreciated. S>G>D |

I've only done the PMC TB2 vs BM6A comparison but I think the components in each and sound quality are similar to the models you're interested in. For my money the PMC's are the most natural sounding and revealing monitors I've worked with - I've never heard acoustic instruments better reproduced. I like the BM6's as well but I think the PMC's have the edge, although I have found they are more fussy with room positioning than the Dynaudios and not such a wide sweet spot. (I have not heard the new tweeter versions which the DB1's are so this may have changed.) Transmission line designs such as PMC have a totally different feel to the bass response which may not be what you're used to but you soon find that it's incredibly natural and not at all hyped as other designs can be. For a number of reasons I'm running BlueSky ProDesks now and I'm very happy with these but I still yearn for some PMC's again.

I didn't like thee BM5a mk2 I tried. Mids a bit scooped, bass a bit boomy, and tends to resonate in the room

One of the companies makes good sounding speakers and the other is Dynaudio.
