D&R Series 4000 mixer

Hi ppl,

I just bought a D&R Series 4000 mixer in an online auction.
I've never used one myself- where do they slot in as far as sluttiness goes?

Above/Below Mackie 8 Bus? Above/Below Soundcraft?

This one is a 16 channel desk- which is all I need really.
It was ridiculously cheap, but needs a bit of work done to it also.

What are the pre's like? the EQ?

I took a punt figuring I could always sell it on if it doesn't do the job.

Thanks ppl

James

Good Choice. After doing a lot of research I bought a D&R Series 4000 (mkII) and I am very happy with it. I have a 36 channel version.

For some reason they do not have a big gear slut factor (which explains why you can get them cheap) but they are very very good boards, way above something like a mackie. The EQ is musical and the mic pres are solidly good, not quite on par with my high end outboard pres, but very usable.

D&R consoles have a pretty acurate reputaion of being neutral sounding and very clean. They have very simple signal paths and they are actually pretty easy to repair.

Hi Ronan,

Thanks for the reply.
Ok- the one I bought is currently broken- there is a problem with the powersupply and also two of the channels are down.
In the meantime I've contacted D&R and they say parts are available for them, except the circuitboards and metalwork so I am hoping it will be ok.

If it doesn't then I haven't lost much- maybe I can offer you the channels as spares?

Thanks again,

James
