Manual for Series 8T

I wish Oram and crew would hurry up with a manual for this board just for these little quirky things that he does so different from anybody else

I have the 16 channel Series 8T by the way.

Exactly. I just set and forget the monitor return trims. When it's time to mix, I want access to the EQ's anyway, so I use the ip/rev to flip the inputs. Then you have fader control of the tape ins.

I think this feature is for people that are used to the way big desks work, like Neve and SSL.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be trivial about it...

I mean it would be a nice feature to be able to "pre-mix" while recording and have your fader settings "half way there" for mixing. I just meant that (for me) it's so rare that I go from tracking to mixing one song at a time that it's pretty moot.

i wish the atb had that feature too. if anything, it's just a good saftey feature. if you're tracking drums with the full band there, one of the members might decide to think "hey, i want to hear more kick" and find the channel and pull up the fader. i haven't seen it happen, but i can easily see plenty of people doing it. if you were able to switch the two, make the small knob the level send to tape, they can change the fader all the want and you'll be ok. plus, as you later mentioned, it is nice to do some pre-mixing, just with the levels and everything, just to make sure you feel comfortable with the sounds you're getting. can't have everything though, right? and i'll sacrifice that one feature for an overall better board (in my opinion).

Well you CAN do all the pre-mixing you want as it is...it's just you use the knobs instead of faders. The real issue is if you want to premix with the faders while tracking and then save those positions and head straight to the real mix using faders. And even then it only makes sense if your not using the additional 24+ line ins for mix down

I don't see this as being much of a common practice. It would be a HUGE HUGE deal if the board was automated and that's probably the biggest reason the "big boards" offer this feature.

ok ok

I know that this may not be about the 8t but it is about oram boards.
I booked a room a few weeks ago with this purple Oram BEQ piece of shit in it. I believe that their only design criteria was that it PASS audio no matter how degraded it may sound on the other end.
