Passive Dynaudio BM5's vs. Active KRK RP6's

Yes yes y'all,

Aight. I use Dynaudio BM5's w/ a Samson Server 100 pre-amp.
I'm thinking of investing in new monitors.

My dillema:

The acoustics in my room suck. See picture.

I'm going to work on 'fixing' the problems with the acoustics tho. Curtain in front of the wall with the window. Speakersstands. Moving the mixer to exactly the middle of the wall. Couch opposite of speakers.

Now.. someone told me: the Dynaudio BM5's have more detail than the RP6's. My whole PROBLEM with the BM5's is the lack of detail. But.. it could be acoustic-related.

I do hear people saying 'active is better than passive'. Is this fact.

What do u guys think??

The samson power amp is probably killing whatever detail you had.
I suggest you dump it out the window, get a good amp, and re evaluate.

Then get some racks, seriously, those towers of gear are scaring me!!

Sorry if I sound to harsh about the samson amp, but seriously, you have no idea what your monitors sound like with that amp in the chain. So until you have a decent amp
you can't possibly know whether or not you even like the Dyn's. My guess is they are more than detailed enough when powered properly. Now then after having a good amp if you decide you want a different pair of monitors you could just buy another pair of passives ones and a speaker switcher. Thereby preserving the years you've spent getting to know the Dyn's by keeping them around as a reference point.

So, get a good amp, treat the room and then you'll know whether the monitors are even in need of replacement.

Start reading.

THE most important thing in the monitoring chain is the room.

You can have a pair of ADAMs and not hear the "detail" if your room sucks.
