Going for the Wall of Sound Sound

Ok, you're not going to be able to do this in an apartment
unless you want to be evicted.

I'm just noodling here having fun through my Vintage Ampeg
SVT 8X10 fully appreciating just how great it sounds to have
a wall of speakers pumping air for all their glory at stage volume.

I know we can do magic with a small combo, but going for
live stadium 70's tones, this cab is the bees knees.

The lower efficiency of these original CTS 32 Ohm 10" AlNiCo drivers
combined with the 16" deep, sealed chamber design, makes this
cab tight enough to handle an SVT, but these AlNiCos just sing
with guitars and big block amps.

To re-outfit this cab with new replacement AlNiCos could easily
top "$2000.00 so I'm still careful due to the age of these speakers.

Here the same cab with the Reeves 225 @ 256 watts RMS.

A case of the grins like you just have to experience for yourself.

So....

What are you guys doing to get your favorite live concert sounds?

In the earlier version, it's hard to ignore how big the
'65 Gemini I makes this guitar sound, but I'm also pushing
the highs with the amp's bright boost.

The camera mic, yeah Meh!

I'm still working on the parts and the tones, so consider this
extended, exploratory pre-production of these originals.

All this trying to get the guitars and amps to sound the way
I hear them in my head.

I'm a perfectly brilliant guitarist in my head studio.
It's getting my spazz fingers to translate that to
something worthy of recording that takes all this work.

It still gets me how BIG my little R12R can sound

This is 70's garage Low Fi mad science mono.

The Reeves is recorded only with the Canon Camera mic
at about 14 feet with zoomed video.

In these two I'm just experimenting with sheer WHOMP!

And then my R12R just stuns and amazes me at how cool it tracks.

Great, you can find a wide range of speakers that can provide good sound with vibrating bass and deep resonance.

The Reeves is clearly an amazing workhorse amp.

It supports that kind of guitar top end

and still rules for clear, rich natural bass guitar tones.

Yes, I'm finally at the point where I can afford ever so slowly
to buy good speakers to go with these amps.

The Fanes in my Ampegs have been eye opening.

The Rover Clip is the guitar straight up (vintage mini buckers)
with the amp pre gains dimed and Y jumpered, so we can blend
both channels together for additional tone control and gain.
The first two knobs are the pre gains for each channel.

We kept the Master at 10:00 to protect the speakers and our ears.

The Ibanez breaks up early, so I'm just running straight up
into the bright channel for that one.

To open up the amp for bass, I cut the pre gain back to about 10:00
and opened up the Master to let the amp breath.

Love Thy Neighbor
is intended to be something to the tune of
Cheap Trick meets Blue Cheer and Alice Cooper

A Rock Anthem to all the poor suffering bastards with
grumpy neighbors.

Total party rock and the lyrics are still in the works,

The whomp part at the end is just a sing along chant

We Don't Mind
No We Don't Mind
We Don't mind
Disturbing the neighborhood

We don't mind
No We Don't Mind
We Don't Mind
Love Thy Neighbor!

I'm having as blast!

Well........

I was kinda hoping a few of you would show us examples of how you
get your live band guitar tones.
