How to do mid/side with a U47-style mic as mid?

I just acquired a Pearlman TM-1 and wanted to pair it with my Royer 121 in M/S w/ the Royer as the "side". I was playing around today and, due to the shockmount + size of the TM-1 (or, I guess, any u47-style mic), I couldn't get them close enough to be in phase.

When I look at drawings or pics of M/S, I see a nice little pencil SDC - which is fine and I have one of those - but I want to try the TM-1 as the mid. Any suggestions?

Here's the ideal:

Just substitute a fat body + shockmount with a forward-address capsule for the mid.

try the royer upside-down directly above the ldc? afaik moving mics vertically has less negative effect than moving them horizontally in this kind of setup

Point the Pearlman as per usual and hang the Royer upside down and sideways on top?

Nah I didn't think of having it sideways - we can each get an ice cream lolly (which is what, btw - crazy brits )

Well, if it wasn't pointing to the sides you wouldn't have it collect much side signal for yer M and S, would you?
