How to capture the tone of an AC30?

Hi there,

I have just received a beautiful JMI AC30 from the mid 60ies.
Needless to say, I love its tone.

But I'm having a hard time to capture it.

Would you mind sharing some proven techniques of micing an AC30?

I'm not really lacking mics - the classics are there:
- 421
- 441
- AKG D12
- AKG D19
- U47 fet
- M269c
- a bunch of odd ball ribbons (no Royer R121 tho)

I'm not short on preamps either.

Thanks heaps in advance.

Michael

How about setting aside an "AC30 recording day" where you and a chum perhaps, record ALL the possible mic combinations and mic position's and placement in your recording space - to find the best tone? (Having a chum move mic's while you listen could be v educational)

Worthwhile I suggest!
