Headphones for demanding bass player: Help!

Dear Gearslutz,

please help me choose a nice set of headphones for a very demanding but amazing bass player who also happens to be a very good client. He is not satisfied with the headphones we have in the studio right now (AKG). Always complaining about how he can't hear the low end enough e.t.c.

Thankfully, he is smart enough to understand that all headphones lack at reproducing the very low frequencies. So, he is not really asking for massive bass, just some more clarity. Now the AKGs sound tiny to me too, after 10 sessions full of complaints.

I want to make him feel comfortable. As I said, he is a very good client and, besides his own projects, he always sends more work to our studio from time to time.

Please let me know which one is your headphone of choice when it comes to bass players in the studio.

THANK YOU!

I track my bass at home with a pair of Sennheiser HD25s.

I can always hear the note very well... Although occasionally I think the pitch sounds weird and "off", but most of the time, no probs. And you can EQ the monitor send without any distortion or "woofiness"

Sony 7509 for the last 4 years...3 watts...comfortable, well damped(bass), no distortion even with drums...but... expensive...

the 7509's have good bass clarity (as a classical bassist myself, I like them as they sound pretty clear down to H1)

Beyerdynamic definitely, a very comfortable can, with lots of low end, crystalclear and one of the best isolating pair of cans.

ATH-A700 these are really unique, outstanding bass and clarity. Really useful for singing too, helps stay on pitch. They have an open back version too. They need to be broken in a little. My HD280s are history.

Sony V6's or 7506's here. And I carry a pair in my session box so that I have them at other studios as well.
