dbx 120x-ds: run mono or stereo with mono sounds?

i'm usually just sending mono sounds such as kicks and basslines to this subharmonic synth.. do you think it makes much difference to run this just one channel (left in, left out) or do you think it would be better to run it stereo, sending the mono sound as dual mono and return as stereo (dual mono)? would that be redundant? how are you doing it if you have one?

The 120x-ds is one of my favorite trix! I have almost always used it in mono, since all I use it for is the subwoofer output, and low frequencies are pretty much non-directional... and is saves a fader on the board...

I agree with Ryan. I set it up off a buss or send and use it like an effect. Almost all the 5.1 mixes I've done have some extra bottom, and not just in the sub.

Mono.

Never on kicks.

Once in a while on bass.

Like something else for both.

I do use it on toms at times though.

hmmm, never on kicks? theres a certain control on the 120x-ds that adds subharmonic delay that i turn all the way down when using it for kicks (forgot which control it is, i dont have the unit here right now) and i only use a tiny bit on an aux send, but it seems to work ok on kicks for my taste. it is not very "tight" though, thats why i only use a tiny bit. i've been looking for that "something else" to give it that extra "punch" x10! they're hard to come by!

It can be great on kicks! Right tool for the right job sometimes...

Aphex 204 and bbe 422 are great on kick sometimes also...

The 120x-DS is just too floppy sounding for me on kicks.

It works great though on floor toms and the occassional bass.

I found another sub enhancer that works well on kicks which i send a kick/bass buss to and tuck it under.
