Thread Starter | Getting sound from PCM4222EVM into computer
Hey all, I have a chance to purchase a PCM 4222 EVM Analog-->Digital Converter with PSU from a friend for $150. I now have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 with S/PDIF inputs. Is getting audio into my computer as simple as connecting from the S/PDIF of the PCM4222 to the M-Audio? If not, what kind of converter should I buy? And, is the M-Audio digital input good enough quality to tell the difference from its original ADC? Very Best, computer_machine |

I am interested too by this question! I guess it would work... Or a good "old" M-audio CO3 (wich takes either AES3 or Spdif coax to a Macbook optical input for example) or a newer CO2 would do the job. Am I right? PCM4222EVM users wich interface do you use? Thanks! Guillaume |

I am trying to assess how to connect the AES3 output from the PCM4222EVM into a PC for recording purposes (192KHz/24 bit) . Not sure I understand how that is done. I realize a conversion needs to happen between AES3 and S/PDIF (http://www.rane.com/pdf/ranenotes/In...S3_&_SPDIF.pdf) but don't seem to find any type of converters to go from S/PDIF to USB2 (but tons of them doing the other way from computer USB to S/PDIF DACs). Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? |

You really need an interface with an S/PDIF input since it already has drivers to support it. I've heard of some people messing around with trying to DIY this portion as well, but it would probably take some EE/programming knowledge to do it correctly. I built a converter using the PCM4222EVM recently. It is compatible with S/PDIF out of the box as long as you configure the EVM correctly. I had some issues when I first built mine, here's my thread about getting it working, you'd just need to change the settings relating to sample rate: My PCM4222EVM build w/pic. Need some tips... FYI - you must clock your system from the EVM, as it has no external wordclock input. It will send clock over S/PDIF, I'm using mine this way with my Focurite Saffire Pro 40.
