Thread Starter | Thanks Gearslutz!
I was researching some gear on GS and did a search for a pre and ran upon a thread of mine from a few years ago. It was so strange to read. The thing I really got out of it is how far I've come. You guys have been my teachers. I never went to audio school or ever worked in a big studio, I'm self taught. I can't for the life of me ever seem to read an owners manual so I've really had to use my ears to figure stuff out but having read so many posts on this site for years I've been given great concepts and starting off points. I'm real grateful for GS, I don't know where I would be if Jules hadn't started this.

I agree 100% ... Last evening I was looking through an old notebook and found a paper I wrote in 1995 entitled "A Computer's Role in the Recording Studio" ... If I ever get the time I'll type it up and throw it up on the web... It's a trip looking backwards!

James -- I'll have to second that one. I'm in that same position you were three years ago... greener than tea and as of a couple months ago, naive and innocent. Not so anymore. I've been dirtied. Already I've learned the pitfalls of expecting gear to make you sound bettter, the trap of magic-bullet searching... and countless other practical things that it would have taken me years to learn the hard way. I too shy away from traditional education methods and prefer to dive in at the deep end. And without Gearslutz, I likely would have hit my head on the bottom of the pool, cracked my head open, and floated to the top a bloody mess. Thanks Jules for creating the forum, and thanks to the countless wise ones who frequent the board to help shmucks like me tie their shoes.
