Radial Workhorse 5000 Questions - and about Series 500

Hi Gearslutz,

I just watched the AES-Video at VintageKing about the Radial Engineering
WORKHORSE 5000 and also read the papers on it at their homepage

Now I'm really interested in this Product and have a few questions about it:

Q1 does "workhorse" accept synth and key line level inputs ??
Q2 is the mixer on the "workhorse" only for the 500 modul slots ?? or ->
Q3 can is use mixer with the summing-input "stand alone" for my instruments ??

so that i have this 8-channel mixer for my synths
and the slots for tracking and mixing ?

actually the workhorse is very interesting for me, because I need a small-format mixer for my synths and don't want the "economy" stuff.
at the same time i want to start with the 500 series as I think it's the best way to get some great pro sound quality without having to be a millionaire

Is there anyone can answer this questions to me ??

And also all the other slutz here using already the 500 Series Modules -

do you think the Workhorse 5000 is great ??
Will the power-supply will be clean - or do you think there are other 500-series racks with better Power-Conditions ???

I just need a synth/keyboard-mixer and think about going 500-series

- what do you think ??

best regards, coyote

Workhorse for keyboards

Hi Coyote;

The new Shuttle module makes connecting keyboards to the Workhorse rack easy. You can also connect directly into the Workhorse summing mixer with a keyboard as it will accept a -10dB input.

As for comparing the current of the Workhorse with others, i can tell you that we provide 1200 milliamps that is shared across 8 slots. This means that you can use 150mA per slot or 200 in the first 4 (800mA) and still have 100mA for the last 4. Most devices need between 30mA and 100mA to run. The original API spec is 130mA per slot while ours delivers 150ma or more.

Have fun!

Peter
