MINDPRINT En-Voice MK II

It won the best channel strip award for the 2006 Electronic Musician editors choice, do you think it deserved it ? Im in the market for a good microphone preamp, so Im thinking about purchasing this. Considering its reasonable pricing, I feel excited about this channel strip. Ill be doing mostly male hip hop vocals and using it to track an mpc machine. The mpc machine is more or less though, my real main concern is my male hip hop vocals, any adivce ? Pros or Cons ?

well it has compression and 4 band EQ ? Im not sure how many Eq's it has but it has a good amount. Im doing hip hop so, I just need something for my own personal use, Ill use it do record some vocals, EQ it a little and etc.... and bring it over somewhere else to get professionally mixed and what not. I don't really need the compression since thats more post production, but its nice to have. I mean I was going to spend about a 1000 or so, but this is like around 640.

For $1000 I'd buy some highend mono preamp or secondhand stereo (but it will cost you a bit more). Look at great river MP1NV, Neve Portico... Middle class things like mindprint is good as something utilitary/secondary, but if you can afford one chanell of hiend pre, go for it. And I don't think you need EQ and compression for tracking.

good luck

I own a Mindprint.

If you're looking for pro studio quality, save up some more money and get something better.

I find reviews oftentimes misleading because they are usually not clear about what a product is being compared to.

Maybe the Envoice is best in its price range - I dont know.

But I do know you can certainly do better. Usually, you get what you pay for.
