Soundcraft Spirit mixing board.

Hi guys.

This is my first post here. Nice to meet you all.

We are opening a (small) recording studio on Capital Hill, Seattle.
have been looking for an analog mixing board.
We found a mixing board, Soundcraft Spirit.
It's 24 channels, 8 busses. (only?) $1200.
Looks very good.

Have you ever used one of this model before?
Any input would be welcome.

We will be using it with our 828 and Digital Performer 3.11
if we buy it.
We are going to record our friends, local musicians etc.

Thank you.

If I were you......and had to spend around 1,000..... I would just go on ebay and grab a 24x8. I used one for years and so have everyone else out there. They are good for the money. Transparent and workable. For short money it is the best buy!
Good Luck

Nama,

Assuming it is the S/craft Spirit Studio 24/8, then they are probably the pick of the bunch (as opposed to Behringer and Mackie 8 buss desks).............the Spirit Studio has much more useable pre's and EQ.

It could be anywhere up to approx., 10 years old and therefore it would be a wise decision to have it fully serviced by a competent tech. before installing it.

Thank you so much for the replies. Very helpful.

Yes. It's Spirit Studio 24/8. I'm sorry for having been unclear.

Presently, we only have a 828, but, we are thinking we should have a 24 channel mixing board for the future.
MOTU's 24 I/O out. We might buy one of those.

We have around $1200. But, cheaper is better.
What we really need for now is many channels (16 or 24)
and good pres.

If you can think of a better mixing board for the price, please let me know.
We are a bunch of young musicians. We'd really appreciate your input.

One of the first project studios I works out of had one of these.. not great by any stretch, but for 1200, I don't think you will beat it.. it will certanily beat the pants off of a Beringer ( assuming it is in good order) and it also has a "proper" inline function, ( Mix B for monitoring, etc..) so at least you will be learing the right fundamentals.

I say go for it, but be sure it works properly!

The Studio 24/8 was probably the best of the "small frame" 8 buss consoles. I am sitting in front of mine as I type this .

As I said, it is at an age where switches, pots and faders may need servicing, but if you are prepared to have it seen to before you start using it, then it appears to be a good buy.

Just remember.............get your sound at the source right first and have a clean signal chain. If you are putting shit in, then that is what is going to come out.

Good luck.
