| Lives for gear | Lang PEQ-2 rackmounting holes/faceplates?
I've had my trusty Lang PEQ-2 for about 10 years now.. but it has always bugged me because its rackmounting holes force it to be offset by 1/2 RU... in other words, it will have 1/2 RU space above and below it. The way the faceplate is made, there's a thick steel faceplate fronted by a thin, brushed stainless cosmetic layer that the legending, logo, etc are on.. On mine, the thick steel layer has 2 sets of holes on each side, while the brushed stainless layer only reveals the inner pair of holes, forcing this mounting arrangement. My question is -- does anyone else's PEQ-2 have the half-offset holes showing? And... is there some source for replacing the stainless front with one that opens to the standard mounting holes?? check the pics -- -dave |

Dave: I used to have one (wish i hadn't sold it) with the same problem. We took a very long threaded bolt that was thin enough to make it through the portion of the hole that was exposed, but NOT thread to the retaining strip on the rack. We then made a small bracket with a corresponding nut and mounted it on the inside of the rack. It took about 30 minutes to fabricate, but it did the job. |
